Chemical composition and pharmacological properties

Metronidazol tablets are antiprotozoal and antibacterial preparation.
1 tablet contains 0.125 g (25%) of metronidazol as an active ingredient (AI) and excipients.
Mechanism of metronidazol action includes protein nitrogroup blocking and oxidation-reduction balance disorder in protozoan cells causing toxic product accumulation which interact with protozoan DNA leading to their death.

Indications

Use Metronidazol tablets to treat cattle with trichomoniasis, pigs with balantidiasis and dysentery, geese and turkeys with blackhead.

Contraindications

Pregnancy and increased individual sensitivity to metronidazol.

Dosage and administration

Treatment of cows and stud bulls with trichomoniasis: individual oral administration twice a day within 3-4 days in dose of 10 mg of metronidazol (active ingredient) per 1 kg of body weight:
1 tablet (25% active ingredient) per 12.5 kg of body weight or 1 tablet (50% active ingredient) per 25 kg of body weight.
Treatment of pigs with balantidiasis: oral administration twice a day within 3 days in succession, 10 mg of metronidazol (active ingredient) per 1 kg of body weight:
1 tablet (25% active ingredient) per 12.5 kg of body weight or 1 tablet (50% active ingredient) per 25 kg of body weight.
Treatment of pigs with dysentery: oral administration once a day within 4 days in succession, 25 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of body weight.
1 tablet (25% active ingredient) per 5 kg of body weight or 1 tablet (50% active ingredient) per 10 kg of body weight.
If applicable, repeat pig treatment course in 7-10 days.
Treatment of geese and turkeys with blackhead: oral administration for 3 times a day within 10 days in dose of 10 mg of AI per 1 kg of body weight (1 tablet (25% active ingredient) per 12.5 kg of body weight or 1 tablet (50% active ingredient) per 25 kg of body weight) or once a day within 10 days in dose of 1.5 g of AI per 1 kg of feed (12 tablets (25% active ingredient) or 6 tablets (50% active ingredient) per 1 kg of feed).

Adverse events

Adverse events and complications are not observed in case of administration as per package insert. In case of increased individual sensitivity to the drug active ingredient, allergic reactions are unlikely to be observed.

Special warnings

Milk is esculent in 36 hours after the last drug administration. Milk received within 36 hours after the drug oral administration must be boiled for 30 minutes and fed to animals. Farm animals and poultry are allowed to be slaughtered for meat in 5 days after drug withdrawal. Meat of compulsorily slaughtered animals and poultry received before stated period termination can be used to feed animals or rework to tankage.

Storage

Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and animals. Store separately from food and animal feeding at -10…+40°С.
